We began our tour as a Park Ranger explained weapons the Indians used, such as this spear and blow gun.
My son was impressed and is still trying to create his own blow gun. Maybe to use on his sister?

We visited (and climbed!) all the mounds in the park. This is "Mound C"-the burial mound.

Mound "B". No one knows it use.

We're standing on top of "Mound A"--the temple mound. Also a good workout climbing up and down.

The Mound Builders used these "borrow pits" for the dirt used on the mounds.

This canoe was excavated from beside the nearby river.

Here's an example of their houses. This one was infested with wasps in the roof.

And finally, the museum! It included a replica of the village around the year 1100 AD, only with about 500 less houses.

This post is listed under Outdoor Wednesday for more outdoor posts, Wordful Wednesday and Mostly Wordless Wednesday.

How fun !!!

ReplyDeleteCool! The simple house looks quite reminiscent of the homes we saw on a daily basis in Congo - always find it interesting that wherever we are in the world there are things we do the same (or as good as...)
ReplyDeleteHope your walking wounded are both feeling better today.
