Freezing in the Fall

Each year we host a "Fall Festival" on my in-laws farm. The kids play badminton, football, and horseshoes. We have hayrides, a cook-out, a cake walk, and a marshmallow roast.
This year the weather was extremely uncooperative. It was a chilly 48 degrees with a seventeen mph wind. It began to rain just as the party started. Thankfully, the shower passed quickly. Our usual roaring bonfire was small and pathetic.
I didn't make many pictures because I kept running back to the fire and trying to get warm.
Still, fifty people braved the elements to freeze while roasting marshmallows...

Freeze on hayrides...

Freeze while trying to eat...

and freeze while trying to get as close to the bonfire as possible.

Other than freezing, everyone seemed to have a good time. I hope next year will be warmer!

  1. Living in New Orleans gave me that experience - we got to experience cold weather in Alabama and New York and New Jersey as well during the time we lived in the States. My freezing days are but a memory now. I'm enjoying warm weather. What I do miss is the coziness of it all. Putting on the heater and having multiple layers of clothing, gloves and all.

  9. Brrr...it never even gets that cold at night here, okay maybe a couple of nights a year, but I am toasty in my bed NOT sitting on a bale of hay outside. What good sports you all were and it sounds like so much fun, just way to cold for this California girl.

  11. Looked liked a fun time, but maybe because of the cold weather it could have been called the 'winter' festival. Fall needs to come back and stick around for a while...winter can just wait it's turn.

  22. You know, it does look chilly, BUT I am just caught up in how awesome it must be for your family to join together like this! :) My husband's grandma has an orchard in PA where they have lots of things with the whole family. It was so cool getting the chance to go there. I wish we lived closer. :) Thanks for sharing your family time, Pam. :)
